I`m about to experiment more with my portraits. Can`t wait for the sun to show up, can`t wait till I have saved enough money to buy a digital camera (and that`s a cheap excuse for not doing anything out of the ordinary..) tomorrow I might get hit by a bus, so I`ll buy a lot of polaroidfilm, set up some lights and get to work.
If I`d asked One Of The Great if they`d stop their creative process, waiting for what I`ve been waiting for - or go out to buy more film and continue, I think I know the answer.

Rock mot fotball 2

Previous / Next

Saw a band called "Tres Amigos" yesterday. They are 6-7-8 ? bandmembers. Worlds biggest trio, they said. They showed up dressed like santa, a lion(?), Yassir Arafat, and God knows what. They played hits from the 80`s, "Livin`on a prayer", Elvis covers, and some beach-boys-copacabana-stuff I`ve never heard before. It was fun, but it didn`t exactly take off...
I took one picture when one of them threw away his shirt, and flashed the most hairy back I`ve seen in ages. Don`t expect it to turn out any good because of the dim lighting.
Todays post is from Rock mot Fotball, a festival that takes place in Moss, Norway in August.
Don`t remember the bands name. Sorry.

Fire!

Previous / Next

My wife and my oldest daughter, Linn came home one night and told me there was a big fire downtown. Linn and I grabbed two cameras, and off we went. The house was an old brick-building across the street of the fire station. For years, it has been more or less occupied by drug-addicts. It was not the kind of place you would visit at night.
All the people who lived in the building were evacuated, and they let the whole building burn to the ground. I spoke to some of the firemen afterwards, and they told me that there had been so much going on in that building over the years, that it almost felt good that it burnt down. Like a new beginning for some.
That`s what a fire can be.
A new beginning.

Waiting

Tonight`s the night!
In Norway, the 24-th is the day Santa comes to our house. We have been waiting for a month, and we`re looking forward to this big family-dinner tonight. After dinner, Santa shows up with all the presents. I know he`ll show up, because my wife called him a few days ago, and he agreed to come right after dinner. Santa must be really young. He has a voice that is similar to Simen`s- my friends 12 year old son.

Happy holidays to all of you!

I think these are the last from this roll that I want to post. Haven`t photographed anything the last couple of days, except the photo-a-day project, (which reminds me...)
I know there will be a lot of opportunities the next few days, but that`s more for the familyalbum. I don`t want this to be a public "this is me and my family"page. Hope it`s not. It`s just that sometimes I photograph an interesting subject, and then I use this strange camera where two pictures come together. One of the frames happens to be more interesting than the other. My brother in law to the right.

Oh- I almost forgot: There has been a lot of storms an hurricanes all over the world this year.
They have had all sorts of names. Norway has not been blessed with anything but our prime-minister, but today there was something in the air, and the happy reporter at the tv-news could proudly announce that we had been hit by the wind "Finn".
Come on.

Found another great site yesterday. It has so many great pictures and so many links to interesting sites, that I suggest you save it till one day you`re sick and the docktor tells you to not move anything but your index-finger.
This sort of site can make me forget to pick up children, or forget to go to work.
If you`re ready, you may enter...

This is from a film I developed today. I used an old half-frame camera, and it delivered. I`m so pleased with the results...
When i saw the pictures I got that good feeling that this was something special.
Now I`m happy again!

Almost bought a digital camera today. I spotted it yesterday, and the salesperson gave me a great price. Almost 50% off. I had no money on me, and told him I`d be back today. I checked on the net to be sure, and saw that the store`s camera was called DMCFZ2, not 20 as the current model. The new model is 5 MP, this was 3.2 MP. Seems like they tried to sell a 2 year old camera, and instead of telling me that, they said that they had ordered too many because of x-mas, and were willing to give me a good price. They look identical, and I`m happy I didn`t just buy it without being sure.
What I really want is the D-70 because I have some great lenses that I could use with it. I might save up some more money, or buy a used one. I really wish I could do this easier. The scanning and posting is really timeconsuming, but it is so nice to look at all the postings and the comments I`ve got during these few months.
Todays post is just weird.
I love it.

Looks like it`s working. Don`t like the size of the pictures. Would like to have them atleast as big as they used to be, but if I`m patient enough, then I guess that will be better too. Looking forward to the holidays, and to stay away from work. We had about an hour of sunshine today. I can`t remember the last time I saw the sun. It`s been grey and foggy for weeks...But hey, didn`t I promise to stop complaining?
Hope you like Doggy-dog. I might make a dog-series soon. Have loads of dog-pictures. I wish I had loads of swim-suit pictures.

Last chance: I`m trying another program to upload pictures to this site: flickr. I have no idea if this is better or worse than the Picasa/hello combo, but to be honest...it can`t work any worse, because I could not upload ANYTHING! If anybody have a better solution, please let me know. I had a great time working with thelocomotives, but it`s almost off the tracks...

This is what I saw when I got out of the tent at 5 in the morning. The lake was covered in mist, and the sight was worth the trip. It`s strange how a few seconds can pay up for hours of hard work...

I was so happy when I spotted this among 24 frames. I have one roll left to develop, but this is what I wanted. I know him well, and I knew he got it. We were pretty hung over, and it was freezing cold, and that shows on the other negatives. I`ll develop the last roll tomorrow.

Thank God it worked! Or perhaps it should be thank Mike at phototaken. He sent me a mail, telling me to enter my password manually. I`m not sure what happened, but first everything was like the few last days: Nothing. Then I managed to upload a picture, but it turned to be all grey. Then the third time, (and a different picture) it worked.
I could need a simple program that did this easily. Hello is really too much sometimes.
Photographed a friend Sunday, but haven`t developed the films yet. Hopefully there will be time for that before the weekend. He collect guns, and I photographed him in his backyard. We had a great time, and if the pics turn out good- then that`s a bonus.

Nils-Petter

Previous / Next

Nils-Petter is my brother-in-law. We borrowed a canoe a few weeks ago, and went on a trip to a lake called Vansjø. We had a great time, brought equipment enough to survive a nuclear war: Clothing, food, water, chocolate, potatoechips, soda, compass, knife, rope, cellphones, even three big bags full of logs. We had to stay awake all night to manage to get rid of it all. We went home the next morning.

UPDATE: I`m having trouble posting!!!
The program called "Hello" does not cooperate with me. I want to post pictures from my trip to Vansjø, "Hello" want`s to post info about blogger.... Be patient. Alfred.

For geeks: The light decided to disappear before I was done shooting, so I had to push the film from 400 asa to 1600. I used a tripod, and this was taken at 1/30th @ F5.6.
Developed the film in "Tetenal Ultrafine" for 30 mins. This was just a guesstimate. I usually develop Apx400 for 14 mins.
I could have put a camera on a tripod, auto everything, and delivered film at one hour photo downtown. Might have been a lot better. But oh, so boring.

Alby

Previous / Next

Alby is located at Jeløy in Moss, Norway. It was originally a big farm, but now it is an art-gallery called F-15. The woods and the sealine is protected just like national parks...It`s only ten minutes by car from where I live, so it is a perfect place for me to bring a camera. It`s usually packed with people on Sundays, but more relaxing on weekdays.
I have heard that there is a viking-ship buried on the beach not far from Alby. A friend of mine saw this picture, and told me that there were archaeologists digging out there a few years ago, and that they found proof that it really existed, but no one could pay for the project, so it was cowered with sand again, and left there for future generations. Sounds strange to me, but it is definitely something I want to learn more about.
I also heard a story about a church 10 minutes south from here...It`s 800 years old, and now we know that there were another church right next to this one. Some scientists were checking the soil, and by using photographs from a satellite, they could easily see where the other church had been. The experts say this was not uncommon. It was probably two guys who wanted to be king in this area, and not unlike people of today, they got a little carried away...

Looks like the photos I make with the old Zeiss-Ikon are something special. Now I`m sure that my choice of camera have a lot to say about the final print. When I bring an old camera with bellows, or a plastic camera, I usually play more, and use my imagination a lot more than I do when I use one of the fancy new ones. This photo got my imagination running. What do you think?

Today, the light is great, and I am about to go out and burn film.

The last few days, I have got some very positive comments, and it really mean a lot to get this sort of feedback. I have been very uninspired lately, and I realize that this has been a topic in many of my posts. From now on, I`ll start to act like a grown-up and stop complaining.

Abstract

Previous / Next

Didn`t manage to post yesterday..."Hello" wouldn`t upload the picture. I tried to use Frontpage too, but that didn`t work either. I don`t want to blame the computer. I just had a "bad PC day". Todays post looks great in print, but I am a little disappointed with the way it looks on screen. Sometimes I show this page to friends at work, and on some screens, the photos looks so much better than on others. I really didn`t know there could be so big difference.
Have been thinking about maybe do some minor changes to this site too. I think it is really dull compared to (all)most of the other`s sites. On the other hand...what if I concentrated a little more on photography...and a little less on how the frame looks...
Looking forward to the holidays. I`ll take 10 days off, and spend some quality time with my wife and kids. They mean everything to me.
