Kaizers

Previous / Next

I love a good consert, and Kaizers delivered the goods. It`s always easiest to get a good shot with a fast telephoto lens, but sometimes, when I am lucky, I manage to get close enough to fill the frame with a 50 like this one, or even better a 28mm. The music builds up, and I often predict when something is about to happen. Then I start shooting, jumping up and down with the crowd, and hopefully IT happens.
I always use 400 asa film, only sometimes 3200.

The Holga can turn something ordinary into something very special. In this case it turned something very special into a monster.
I love it.

Straw

Previous / Next

I like it`s shape and form, it reminds me of summer, and I guess I will go back to this beach in wintertime when they are covered in ice. These straws are about two meters tall (5-6 feet),
and look quite impressive. I can`t belive I haven`t photographed them in the wintertime...
Maybe they`re not there?
I haven`t photographed a lot of nature-stuff this year, been trying to concentrate on portraiture and street-photography. I think I made the right decition. My nature photos tend to be boring and soul-less. I guess I just do it because I want to photograph something, and because of timelimits and the fact that I`m scared of crossing my own limits when it comes to approaching strangers with a camera in my hand.
But when I do...I get a rush out of it, and even if the final picture looks like crap, the actual happening was far more interesting than for instance....a straw.

Egg

Previous / Next

Believe it or not - the aliens that landed in my garden last Friday, left an egg.
It`s hard like a rock, and smells like French fries. I have no idea how those small aliens that I saw could give birth to an egg that is this big.
I`ll keep an eye on it.
Not literally.

Late last night, a spaceship landed in our garden. I was too tired to get up, but took a pic of the pilot before I went to work this morning.
Funny thing is he was stuck in the same spot when I came home too, and now I saw more of them. I photographed a few, and I will post more of them later.

Tried out a roll of T-Max 400, that was out of date in 1988.
I remember 1988. It was a good year.
But it`s been a while. Maybe that`s why I hardly can see anything on the negative...It`s hanging to dry, I`ll scan it this weekend, and hopefully an image will appear. I used my Holga and a flash with a softbox. The motive was my youngest daughter working with her modern art. She is a four year old painter with crazy ideas, and now the kitchen looks like hell.
I better clean it up before it dries.

Needed some colorstuff to show my trusty audience. I am a bit worried that my page is difficult to navigate, and that lots of pictures are not beeing seen. I would like to have pushbuttons, arrows or next and previous...don`t know how to do it, but it sure feels more comfortable to use.
Will have to think about it for a while...Feel free to comment!

Ivan moved to Norway!!!!
Or his cousin Pjotr.
It`s been so windy and cold and rainy that I almost lost it today.
Someone said that it was the remains of Ivan that was brought by the Gulf-stream towards Scandinavia and Norway. I think it sounds a little far out, but I`m no metereologist either, so why not.
It sure felt like it.

Lately I have been thinking a lot about medium format cameras versus digital...I am a little afraid that the filmcompanies will stop producing 120 film, and that my fav. camera, the Hasselblad will be useless....That would be a disaster....There are digital backs that fits some of the Hasselblads, but I could probably buy a new car for that kind of dinares. - I don`t know.
The photo-stores are suddenly raising the price for developing slides (120) by 90%, and that is not a good sign.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who saved is BETA player till the late 90-s.
What a looser ;)

These guys were spotted at the Rock Mot Fotball festival in Moss, Norway early August this year. They looked so cool together, and I tried to squeeze them in, used a 50 mm lens, and managed to get three shots before they left. I`m always a little afraid that someone will punch my face flat when I do this, but so far I`ve only been yelled at.
Today I walked some stairs fiddling with a camera when suddenly a man appeared in front of me saying:
"Don`t take my picture!"
I answered "Ofcourse not", still walking.
Then he stopped, turned around and replied: " Why ofcourse not?"
I really didn`t know what to answer...he looked quite mad, and I couldn`t think of anything clever to say, so I split.

This photo was taken in our cellar last winter. Available light.
I haven`t taken too many pics the last couple of days, but I hope to be able to do something about that in the weekend. Have been thinking more about maybe make a Holgaroid, but don`t feel like destroying the back of my camera. Maybe I can make the polaroid magazine detachable? Guess I just have to let my braincells work it out while I do something else.

Got a Polaroid Studio Express camera today. It`s ment for making four pictures that people can cut and use in passports and drivers licences...It has a focus range of less than two meters, and I`m twisting my brains, trying to figure out a cool way to use it.
The polaroid back is removable, and fits my Mamyia 600se, and maybe I could try to adapt it to something else too. Like a Holga, or maybe just a box with a hole in it.
I don`t know...any ideas out there???

We took a walk by the sea- I really wanted to try out a Yashicamat TLR, a great camera that I seldom use unfortunately...We worked for quite a while, tried out lots of poses and locations. We had a good time!
I went out of film after a while, and as it got darker, we headed for the car. Suddenly, the light changed, and because I was out of 120 film, I grabbed my trusty Nikon.
It`s my backup-camera, and it has saved me more than once...
The more formal shots we made earlier in the day turned out ok but nothing special. They were just well exposed boring pics of a man in a dress...But this one - at the end of the day - on our way home, turned out to be my favorite.

Last night we went to Terje Nygaards birthday-party. He is a great photographer, and he had invited 50-60 friends to Studio A7 in Oslo. We met lots of people that we seldom see these days, and it was very inspiring to talk about photography with other people that is interested in the same topic. We stayed in another friends house, and she had put lots of new photographs on tables and floors for us to see. She is supposed to have an exhibition later, and was very interested in our response to her work. She is a former dentist, now photographer, prints everything herself, and is GOOD at what she is doing. We had so much fun!
I really needed to get some inputs, and this weekend has been GREAT!

This is low, I know...But he got a little carried away during a concert in Moss this summer, and I was there...with a camera...feeling something was in the air...mmm...great show, there was a chainsaw involved here too, but no one or noTHING was harmed. Sorry I don`t remember the name of this band.
I have just developed a roll of film with images from today's trip to Oslo. The negatives looks great, but they have to dry till tomorrow. Then I maybe have time to scan and post one of them. Can`t wait!!!!
Had a day off from work, and needed to go a little further than just outside the house. I like crowded spaces where I can disappear and watch what's going on.

Flame me

Previous / Next

This whole idea about posting has made me a little bit more focused lately...I think a lot about how I am going to be able to get a few decent shots, and what I can be happy with. I think good enough really isn`t good enough, and that's why I have to push my limits.
On the other hand: What`s perfect ? And isn`t perfect boring?
After reading some of the critiques on other sites, I really wonder how people can look at a picture and say "too shallow depth of field", or "have you tried to convert it to B/W and crop most of it ?"
I realize this is ment as constructive critique, and that this might be useful at times, but it is also damaging peoples creative flow. I`m showing off my work, I really want comments, but I would prefer to know what people think, instead of what they know.
My goal is to be different, it`s a long way to go - but I`ll make it!

And on the seventh day - he took a break.

Brought an old Pentax Me-Super with a 28mm on a little walk today. This is one of my favorite cameras - it`s small and robust. I tend to be more carefull in every way when I bring a more expensive camera, and that has to affect the end-result. My Pentax is just a tool, and has been dragged with me lots of places. A camera that is highly recomended.

Todays post is another fav.

The polaroid sx-70 is an exelent camera. It looks so cool when it is folded...almost like what a portable cd-player could look like in the sixties....I know - you know what I mean :) To bad the film is so expensive here in Norway. It`s about $40. And that is only ten exposures...But I love to watch the image appear...it feels better to watch that, than to watch a raw-file convert into jpeg (or whatever happens)
Does it show that I`m not very comfortable next to my computer?

Today things got a little bit better. (Posting, that is.) I really think there has to be an easier way to do this....what I do is: I open Hello, choose a pic via Picasa, uploads it to my blog, then I have to edit this post to be able to include the text, and this is were I fumble and mess up!!!
The picture actually disappear when I start to write, and I HATE it!
Anyway: This takes time, and I really have to start shooting again. I have a few projects that I`m working on, and there has been no progress lately.
To become better, I really have to practice.....I know: I`m lazy.
